Midweek Mumbling – Why is loving Film such an expensive hobby?
Midweek Mumbling, this week I want to talk about something that is very close to my heart, money and the cost of watching Film
I am not just going to rabbit on about how to make money online, or a get rich quick idea. No, this is more of a plea for the prices of film media to come down.
Lets face it we are in a world-wide depression, money is tight for us all. I mean I used to put £10 of fuel in my car and I got 10 litres, that was just 2 years ago, now I get 6 litres. It’s a joke. I go and buy a basket of shopping, costs me over £50 without fail!! That is just for the essentials in feeding my family for a weekend.
What I am trying to get at is why I have to pay so much to have a very small pleasure in life, watch a film.
If I go to my local multiplex with my family I can definitely count on it costing me at least £25 for the tickets, and that is a 2-D film, as I am not paying the extra money to look like a freak in 2 pairs of glasses!!! £25 is a lot of money. My first full-time job when I was young brought me in £100 a week, so paying a quarter of that just to sit uncomfortably in a cinema with my girls for 2 hours stings quite a bit. It’s not only the ticket though is it?
I know for a fact that the cinemas do not actually make all that much on the over priced tickets. It is all about the concessions. The last time we all went to the movies, we bought 2 drinks, popcorn for the girls and some M&M’s for me and it cost me another £16….I nearly fell over!!! If you do decide to chance your luck and sneak food into the cinema you have to get past the over sized spotty teenager eyeing you up and down looking for the tell-tale signs that you are breaking the LAW, these guys have that stone cold stare that only seasoned killers have. I imagine some fat naked manager in the offices out the back of the cinema rolling around on a bed covered in money.
OK so we got in, we have our gold dusted popcorn and our liquid diamond drinks (well they must be for the price I payed for them). We sit in the strange shaped seats. On a side note does anyone else do the bum grill in the cinema seats? 10 minutes on one cheek then flip to the other, rinse and repeat? Surely my bum isn’t such a weird shape?
I am going off topic, So the show starts but before the movie begins we are shown a 30 second movie on how ‘Piracy is a Crime’. OK I get the point, Piracy is bad. I never would condone the piracy of a media I love, but, if there ever was a case for piracy then it is here to cut out these stinking Anti-Piracy adverts. I paid for my tickets, I had to take out a small mortgage, but I paid, tell the pirates not me. What happens next is worse, it’s far more patronizing, they thank me for paying for my ticket, because I have helped to keep the industry alive and keep the films being made, I agree but also I have helped that manager keep his bed of Gold too!! These warnings far worse on DVD or Blu Rays, not only do we get the adverts but we also get it in 30 languages. Not only that but you can’t fast forward them!! I don’t see the point at all. If the technology is there to get through the security on a disc, capture just the film with the correct language and subtitles, don’t you think they can get past these warnings? HEAR ME NOW PRODUCTION STUDIO, I BOUGHT THIS FILM, I PAID TO SEE IT AT THE CINEMA LET ME GET ON WITH THE SHOW!!!
‘What the hell is your point?’
I haven’t really got one. I know that I cannot change this. I know I cannot get the world to reverse and for prices to come down, but it would be nice if somehow things stopped getting more expensive. We do not go out much, we enjoy watching films but I never get to see the new releases as they are too expensive. There must be another way. Surely. More sponsorship? More product brands? I don’t know. But if Piracy is such a big thing then making Films cheaper and therefore more accessible would kind of make ripping them off defunct. It is kinda like legalizing drugs or Pubs opening 24 hours, taking away the need to go underground and making it there for all reduces the amount of crime, surely? Am I wrong in this?
I guess it is a vicious circle, prices go up because of Piracy and Piracy happens because of the high prices…I may take up knitting..
How are you coping with the recession? AM I way off with my proposition? Is piracy making film more expensive? Are there any other ways out of this?

I’m lucky that where I live the biggest cinema chain offers this Unlimited subscription. This means that for 18 euros a month you can go to the cinema as often as you like..only for 3d movies you have to pay a couple of euros extra. Saves a lot of money.
I don’t know how many people have it, but it’s probably a big success and allows them to have more people in the seats who of course spend money on drinks etc too.
Completely agree on the piracy warnings. I actually think that it would be better if a movie immediately starts playing once you put in in your drive…if I want to change something like subtitles it could be done by just pressing the menu button.
I’m afraid the piracy warnings are there to stay even though I don’t get the point as those that pirate it don’t watch those warnings.
That is a pretty cool thing to have near you. Our local chain offers a similar product for a similar price, but we would need 4 of them so that would make it £60 a month and then hope to god that there are films for us all to see!!
If I was single I would definitely get one as I could easily afford and justify that money, I would even suffer the numb bum too!!
Yea it would be aces to be able to jump straight to the film….
I know it is a weak rant, but it just gets my goat a bit!!
C
poor little Australian here – If i was to go to the cinema i would have to pay $18AUD (which is on par with USD now) for a single adult ticket on a normal night.
To my knowledge we have no monthly fee option at any cinema in my city. It is unreasonable for me to go to a cinema when to rent a DVD is $2.50 or i can get on my pirate ship and sail the cyber sea for free.
If going to a movie cost me less than $10 i’d watch at least one movie a week in a cinema. Instead i watch 1 a year.
knit me a sweater if you start that new hobby
Ah, I don't even have a multiplex in my city, and in Vojvodina we have just one
Belgrade has a number of them but it's far away from me.
But most people in my country hardly enough money for food so who am I to ramble about cinemas
I think I will start with some sock Dezzy, but I will do my best to get you a sweater.
When you put it into context like that, it certainly makes you think ‘what am I complaining about?’
Thanks for the comment matey
I agree about the prices of cinema tickets. As yet I don't have kids to take to the cinema but I know it would certainly sting the wallet if I did. And that's because I can say no to the cola bottles at £1 per sweet but the kids can't!
I have to say I'm a terrible patron for the cinema industry in that I'm so stingy. I never buy any of the concessions because they are overpriced and only go to the cinema on either Wednesday for the buy one, get one free offer or Tuesday's when Odeon do 25 percent off for rewards card holders.
And yes I sneak in a small picnic too – just pretend the wife is pregnant! We can get in there a picnic blanket, hot and cold drinks, finger food, main meal, dessert, and even some party games just in case the film is boring!
The petrol thing is definitely a concern. We share a car now to cut down on costs. But it is depressing thinking a few years ago we were paying 70-odd pence per litre and now it's over £1.30. I wonder how much the price of fuel is in America at the moment.
HAHA I can just see you and the Missus sneaking in your picnic, her sweating trying to look innocent and you whispering that its going to be ok…..HAHA
Petrol is a shocker, I can’t believe we are where we are and yet we still keep buying it. We should have a country wide strike!!
America’s price is creeping up too I think
C
Gas where I am (Denver, Colorado) is around $3.60. So, that makes it…..whatever the conversion rate is. I'm lazy.
Is that a gallon? or a litre? If it is a gallon then that is a lot cheaper than us.
If I have done this right, 4.5 lt to a gallon = £6.30 and therefore would cost $10.08
Jeesh when you look at that its shocking!!
Then again I probably have done this all wrong…
I just saw a lot of numbers and = signs. It’s late. But yea, I was talking per gallon.
Now my maths isn’t my strong point but a convertor is telling me 1 gallon equals 3.8 litres. So do I divide $3.60 by 3.8 to get 1 litre in dollars? My calculator is telling me that is 0.94. So that means it is $0.94 for a litre which converted to UK pounds is £0.59.
So we are getting well and truly screwed in this country but we knew that already.
America pays 59 pence a litre. We pay £1.33 and rising (or $2.13 per litre / $8 per gallon!!!!)
This is when I write something about going to war WITH America in Iraq and something about it all being for cheap oil and us getting the short end of the stick. But I’m not going to…! shush!
Can you believe it! At Morrison’s yesterday it was 132.9p a litre, this morning it is 130.9p a litre. Someone is listening!
Those prices are just ridiculous. I cant believe we have to pay so much!!
59 pence a litre was about right. But now it is impossible to do anything as it costs so much!!
HAHA funny how we get excited by 2p a reduction!
I am going off topic, So the show starts but before the movie begins we are shown a 30 second movie on how ‘Piracy is a Crime’. OK I get the point, Piracy is bad
….but how else can we watch the movie??
Hollywood refuses to send their movies because our government increased the tax for imported movie.
Original DVD costs $5 – $15
Pirate DVD costs $0,5
Do the math
As a teacher in Indonesia, my basic salary is around $100-$200, I can’t spend them all to buy DVD, can I?
I only spend my money on movies played by my favorite actors, ones I know I will watch over and over again.
Prate DVD is indeed BAD…but, what else can we do?
I hear ya, Nov, as I’m from Indo as well, I can vouch for you. There isn’t a piracy law in Indo so technically we’re not breaking the law there, plus pirated stuff are all over the place, it’s not like you have to go to a ‘black market’ to find ‘em.
hehe thanks for the back up Ruth
I am planning to show how pirate dvd has spread like an uncontrolable virus this September. You can easily buy them anywhere now, and the scoop is wider now…they even sell Irish movies now (tho I prefer to buy the original when it comes to Cillian)
WOW it is so interesting hearing about different situations from around the world.
I can’t as a website condone the actual piracy, the copying of the source, but I understand that where you are Novia you have to buy these disks as you have no choice.
I am not here to Judge at all.
Thanks for the great comment and conversation starter.
C
It's a constant money vacuum being a movie lover. For the great ones…..I see them in the theaters……I buy the blu rays…….I double dip because a new and improved blu ray is better than my DVD. Being a movie buff can be extremely costly for the die-hards. This is a topic that I've not really seen other sites talk about much…..well done Custard!
For me Mark, I rarely get to the theatres now for the reasons above and also having kids makes it hard to see anything else than kids movies. We have sucky baby sitters.
But I tend to import my blu rays from USA which in itself is a very expensive hobby. All because I want to see them before they come out over here.
Thanks for the comment Mark very kind
Ha..ha.. it is an expensive hobby indeed, Custie… add to that our new blogging hobby which is 'expensive' in terms of time we put into it (time is money, too, as you know)
I never buy anything when I go to the cinema, usually we have lunch/dinner beforehand anyway. It's just ridiculous how much they charge for snack, I mean $3 bucks for a bottled water, it's insane!! I feel for those families who have to cave in if their kids want popcorn, I think if I have kids I'd hide some snacks in my purse as they don't check 'em going in
$3 bucks Ruth? Now that’s cheap water. Try $5 bucks here in Denver !
Ouch! You should move to MN, Markus… err, then again, no don’t, we tend to skip Summer around here, it’ll be 61 degrees tomorrow [in Fahrenheit to you Brits] even though it was Summer Solstice yesterday
HAHA you can’t put me off, it sounds almost balmy there compared to our summer!!
I am on my way to work with Ted (oh he doesn’t know it yet)
C
So true, Ruth!! so true!!
blogging indeed needs 'expensive' time, especially when we do a post that requires a lot of research, like my latest post (but I did it out of love, who cares if it's time consuming)
3dollars for a water?? insane!!!
I always buy snacks outside, more variaty and way cheaper
HEHE Yes this blogging lark is very zapping on the time, but worth while and has a great feeling when I see a load of comments from people around the globe. All reading my little old blog!! Awesome
The Lunch/Dinner beforehand is a good idea, but I am afraid there is something in the air con at my theatre where I cannot go and watch a film with out peanut M&M’s in my lap, no matter how hungry I am!!
Thanks for the comment my friend
I hear you Custard, when I go see movies in theater I always go to the matinee showing. It’s cheaper and the theater usually don’t have a lot of annoying people around. I hardly buy anything at the theater, I think I bought a hotdog for like $3 at my last trip to the cinemas.
I like the cut of your jib Mr Ted, the matinee is a far better idea, away from the smelly un washed public!!
In fact a screening in our home cinemas is an even better prospect!!
Hi, Custard and company:
As someone who spent many Saturday afternoon in the 60s at the Langley Theater in Adelphi MD. I will go out to a matinee (sans popcorn and soda) for a film I really want to see. Which is kind of sad, since the quantity of films seems at an all time high, yet the overall quality is lacking.
Mostly, I'm patient and will wait for HBO or buy the DVD later on.
Hi Jack,
Can I just say that I love your intro on your comments, you probably are the politest commenter I have. Thanks
I agree with your quantity over quality comment matey, seems very true indeed!!!
do HBO have films too? I thought it was just series, sorry I do not understand USA TV
C
HBO is short for Home Box Office. It’s basically a no-commercials movie channel, and yea, they also produce their own shows. But as for the movie part, they’re the same as any other channel that just shows movies, in their original form (rated R, etc..), with no commercials.
Ah OK sounds a bit like our SKY Movie channels….Subscription only I take it?
It’s subscription in the sense that you have an overall cable television package, which costs, oh, say $50.00 a month or whatever. You can also add HBO to your cable subscription at a cost of like 5 bucks more a month. There are packages that include HBO, but they’re more expensive because they include a lot more overall. I could be off on the pricing since I don’t care and haven’t had cable in years. Hah.
Its the industry’s own shortsightedness that is killing itself. You can’t defeat piracy, but you can evolve, embrace new technology and make it easier for your paying audience to consume your product. Rather than piss them off with all those annoying warnings that ironically pirates never have to watch.
I like your way of thinking BT.
I think that the next 5 years is going to be crucial for the industry. You are right they need to embrace streaming of movies. Now that the internet is getting faster more and more people are using it for a hell of a lot more than emails and browsing naughty pics!!
Do you think they will ever go down the route of simulcast movie theatre and PAID HD internet streaming? Would be a cool idea to stop piracy in its tracks
Just a thought
I think streaming will be the future and can’t wait till services like Netflix will also be available outside of North America. There were rumors some months ago that Netflix was hiring people for localisation, so if true this is a great development. As soon as it would be available I’d definitely get a subscription to it as it would save quite a lot of money and have movies available instantly.
As for movies being available simultaneously at home and at the cinema I think it’s something that will not happen any time soon as the cinemas would have problems with it (already saw this happening recently in the Netherlands with some kids movie where the cinemas objected to the dvd being released something like 6 weeks after the start of its run in the cinema).
I don’t think so. They would have to maintain a window of exclusivity for the box offices. Though I could see that coming down to weeks instead of months. We might see the revival of single screen cinemas though, if they were permitted to stream any classic film to the big screen.
Yeah I can understand what you are saying it would definitely be a nightmare for the big companies and they would never allow it.
But an emergence of more niche indy cinemas would be great. Making them more a special night out with a loved one than a generic film and being shoved around like cattle.
We have one in my home city, Duke of Yorks, a really great night out, more expensive (so defeating the object) but it has that little something that makes it worthwhile!!
I currently live in India and the going to the cinema here is a truely stressful experience, so much so that I have almost stopped going, unless I can find a quiet afternoon session somewhere.
Here the cinema chains come round to your seats DURING the film to ask you if you would like to buy any more food, and then at exactly half way through the film (with no consideration as to what that scene is) they stick an intermission in to buy more food. Finally, just as the film is drawing to a final climatic conclusion the staff come back and stand in front of people asking them to pay their bill. Grrrrrrrrrrr.
This has forced me now to accept that I will not see the latest releases until they are out on DVD/BR. And any film that I would have gone to the cinema to see then I buy on DVD. if you look around then you can almost always get the disk for less than $15, so actually I guess I am saving money. But what I am losing out on is the cinema experience. Films are meant to be watched on large screens, in the dark surrounded by perfect strangers. I miss that.
Hi there Movie Hippo (brilliant name btw)
Thanks so much for the comment, really kind of you to take time and type one for me, brilliant!!
I can't believe what you are saying!! That sounds like utter madness. I would never go out to the picture ever again if that happened to me!!
In fact I would probably storm out before the film got going. What a nightmare.
I really feel your pain!!
Thanks again for the amazing comment
C
Holy crap If I ever go to India, I won’t be going to a theater. Wow…I’m a bit speechless. They should hire me to make shadow puppets on the screen every 10 minutes or so, just….because. They’re already screwing with everyone, why not go full on?
It is very expensive to go to the cinema now, but I am looking to have the CIneworld Unlimited card which cost 14.99 per month. It is such a fantastic offer as I only have to go to the cinema at least twice in a month to get more than my money's worth for it. Naturally I do go to the cinema more than twice, depending on the films released we can go twice or three times a week. I have often seen more than one film in a day!
Recently we also have a fantastic offer on 30% off all food/ice cream/sweets/drinks etc. Which makes everything much more affordable.
HI Caz, Long time no speak!!
I have been looking at those over the last 24 hours. Now tell me something, can you do them on a rolling contract? Like monthly but not tied in for a year?
You see I would be doing 2 of them and would like to be able to cancel at anytime if it got too expensive….
C
How popular are those monthly subscriptions? I’ve never heard of that in my life. I’d probably consider it, since I already do the same with Netflix. I’m in the same boat; if it costs per month roughly the same amount as two tickets, it would pay for itself.
I am getting more and more tempted but £30 (for just the wife and I) is still a lot of dough, and then there has to be something on that we want to see….hmmm
I am currently blessed with being single. I go the theater and pay for my ticket, and that’s it. I bring my own bottle of water, and that’s all I need. Every once and a while I’ll get nachos, because, well, they’re a guilty pleasure of mine. But only so often. Otherwise I would bleed unnatural cheese like substances.
HAHA Bleeding unnatural cheese sounds awesome!!
Me and my dad used to go to the theater pretty often(Although even when economic times were better we still watched a lot on dvd), but now that has gotten pretty rare. We’ve gone only twice this year. One was for Thor because my dad was a fan of the comics, and the other was for Super 8 because a local theater has a tuesday night special where tickets are only 3 dollars and they happened to be showing Super 8 that tuesday night
Now we pretty much use my dads netlix account to get movies…well that and redbox sometimes(it was blockbuster before but that has gone out of business where i live)
Hi Julian, you have been to the pictures once more than I this year so far!! I love the idea of Netflix. I am surprised they have not brought it to this side of the pond yet. Maybe something to do with our very poor internet speeds…who knows!
Thanks matey for popping in
Hi, Custard and company:
Just thought I'd let you, all and sundry know that this topic and thread is linked on today's IMDb home page.
Congratulations!
Hi Jack,
I have noticed a LOT of traffic today!! HAHA I am very happy, although I am also scared as last time it happened my host pulled the plug on the site!! Fingers crossed it won't happen again!!
Thanks as ever for you comment and kind words.
C
As someone who works part time in a cinema I feel the need to reply to your comments. You obviously realize that the cinema makes very little on the ticket price of a movie, therefore it should be equally obvious that profits have to be garnered elsewhere (ie the concessions stand). If you cannot afford the inflated prices do not buy the food! It really is that simple.
I am sick of dimwitted customers ordering what can only be described as a meal that could feed a small army only to then be shocked at the price I have to ask them for, despite the fact the prices are very clearly marked on the menues right in front of them! This is not a new concept. There is no reason why customers should not be aware that prices are high and why they have to be for the cinema to survive.
I also find your comment about “over sized spotty teenagers” to be very offensive. However, having worked in a cinema for four years enduring ten hour shifts for minimum wage pay, this is exactly the sort of patronising attitude that I have to sadly come to expect from a sizable proportion of the patrons which visit the cinema. Their condesending, sneering attidtude is at times deplorable, and the abuse myself and fellow staff endure on a daily basis from people with attitudes such as yours is disgusting. The “over sized spotty teenagers” are only doing the job they are paid to do. If you cannot follow the rules set by the establishment then more fool you. It is with great delight that people such as yourself cannot afford to make more trips to the cinema with attitudes like that.
Hi Daniel Thanks so much for the comment. It makes me very happy that you took the time to do so. Means a lot.
I feel a bit sad that it offended you so. It is only a light hearted look at the general state of the world and the price of living in it. I wasn’t aiming this at you personally you know that right? My wife worked for many years in a cinema in the good old and can remember clearly when it didn’t cost you a small fortune. It is such a shame that the out of town mega plex cinemas have forced the boutique picture house to either close or change into a wine bar. ah the good old days.
I am glad you got that off your chest, and believe me I didn’t mean to offend you.
Thanks again for popping in though
I do love a debate.
Are there press screenings in your area? I’m on a list to get free tickets to press screenings in my area. They usually are a couple of days before the release (so the local reviewers can write an article), and sometimes you have to wait in a line for the real popular movies, but I’ve seen a lot of smaller movies I otherwise wouldn’t have been interested in if it wasn’t for the press screenings. And since I will NEVER pay to see a 3-D movie, the only time I’ve seen them were at the screenings. It’s a great thing for a cinephile.
Hi Arivalscientist,
Thanks for taking time to comment.
I have just enlisted (funnily enough) for a free screening schedule now and go on my first one on Monday night. woohoo!! Which is spooky as you mentioned it here.
Hopefully I should get 3-4 a month early screenings to check out and review. So I am happy
C
Make sure you give the company your comments on the films you see. It practically guarantees you preferential treatment and sometimes even special seating to screenings with the producers/directors/actors of the film your screening. But the best part is seeing films you oherwise wouldn’t have even known about or won’t even be released for almost a year.
Nice tips. I will be sure to do that. Thanks matey
You’ll be dead jealous of us here in New Zealand – it’s illegal for cinemas to PREVENT you from bringing in your own food & drink (as long as it won’t affect the other patrons, no smelly curries).
And as for knitting … I go to the “Mums and Bubs” sessions so I can knit during the movie
Great story. I know when I lived in the UK Odean cinemas did an unlimited pass for 120 pounds a years but this was 7 years ago.
In Australia there were a few cinemas which offered reduced prices for members from the standard $18 to $10 however this year most chains removed their memberships or increaed their members rates to around $13. I have memberships and subscriptions to every cinema and also get cheaper tickets through my work social club. I refuse to pay full price, I go 1 to 3 times a week!
I do not download or pirate films, it’s just not the same and DVD hire is almost the price of a (members) cinema ticket. Cinema all the way!
I love the anti-piracy message that the Hollywood studios are always sending out.
I am a screenwriter and I live in Los Angeles. I wrote three feature screenplays for movie studios. On all three occasions, the studios plagiarized my screenplays from me — they put another writer’s name on the scripts and made the films. No money or credit for me, but credit and money for the guy who put his name on my scripts!
What’s interesting about Hollywood movie studios, is that piracy is a one-way street. Woe betide anybody who “steals” (downloads a film illegally) from a studio, but it’s perfectly fine for them to steal from the people who write the films. And this practice is very common. Amazing!
Chuck
Hi Chuck
Thanks for popping in and writing a comment.
I can’t believe what you are saying about Hollywood stealing from you. That is madness. It truly is a one way street.
Have you got any films out there that I may have heard of?
C
How about the studios making GOOD movies for a change? I mean, movies that have a point, or are beautiful, or at least have actors that can ACT? Why should I PAY to see movies like “Transformers”, or a god-damn reboot of “Star Trek”. Three quarters of the releases per year are sequels, reboots, remakes or comic-book movies. Why on Earth would I want to see those? What happened to MOVIES? They basically took the interactivity out of video games are are serving them up as movies.
If I actually want to see a MOVIE, not a CGI-fest, I’m still stuck with DVDs, so why not download the damn thing? It takes 15 minutes tops, just in time for my pop-corn to finish, my chips to fry, or my sandwiches to get made. And then I’m all set! I could buy/rent it from iTunes for like… basically nothing, or I could pirate it. Either way, it’s fast, and it’s comfortable, and if I choose to pirate it, also FREE!
Truth of the matter is that I’m not going to spend a TON of money on something I can get for free. It’s insane to do that. And making movies cheaper won’t exactly make piracy disappear either. Why? Because FREE will always beat CHEAP, just like it beats EXPENSIVE.
PS. No one is forcing you to buy their popcorn and drinks. That is totally a choice. You could always have a snack before going to the movies, or after you’ve come out, if you do insist on going to the cinema. Complaining about how something non-essential is expensive is kind of… pointless.
Very good points, well made. Thanks Alice.
I guess the consensus is leave the popcorn hey? heheh
Your a tossa your films cost more simply because you watch popcorn films ie sfx 3D style films that cost more to make.
So its not the cinema manager who is getting fat and rich it’s the hollywood producers so go hang it on them and leave the cinema out of it.
And yes you dont have to buy popcorn and soft drinks….maybe its you and your kids that are getting fat
Thanks Sean,
A very well put comment. Thanks so much for taking time to put it together.
Nice of you to call me a tossa too, brill!!
Have a nice day matey
Really enjoyed this post Scott. I feel you man. Ok, so we don’t have kids just yet so it doesn’t cost us quite so much as you to go to the cinema but it does bug that they shamelessly charge so much for a bit of popcorn and some sweeties, it is sickening. I rarely buy popcorn at the cinema and if I do I always share it, it’s just so bloomin expensive. Like you Scott I don’t feel comfortable watching pirated DVDs either, I don’t even like downloading or streaming movies but it just doesn’t quite sit right with me but I can understand why millions of people do.
We are very fortunate actually, where we live, in Belfast, Odeon and the local Movie House both do Crazy Tuesdays offer for 3 pounds and because I have an Odeon clubcard I get in for 2.25 which is sweet! Only for that I couldn’t afford to go either. But then again, it usually only myself and the wife going, or just me on my own so doesn’t hurt my wallet as much as yours.
That piracy warning thing on DVDs really does my head in, it makes me want to put my foot through the TV. What’s more, it’s a crap ad! That music is so annoying! I think it is very cheeky of the Studios or whoever it is that is responsible for thos adds to put them on to home DVDs. I suppose they are bound by legislation but still. Soooo frustrating! Thanks for giving me an opportunity to vent Scott.
P.s. Not to make you jealous but I got some Odeon vouchers for my borthday recently, so that will take the pressure of the purse strings for a while. Every little helps!
Luckily Ronan since this post I have been able to get in with some PR companies and have been to the cinema loads for free!! It is good to blog sometimes!!
You are lucky with that Odeon near you.
S
