Tech Tuesday – Was Steve Job’s Close to bringing us a SMART TV?
Love them or Hate them Apple products are everywhere. But are the mega technological giant close to bringing us the iTelevision?
Now you have got your iPhone yeah? Macbook Air? maybe even a iPad and iPod? What about if they gave us an iTelevision? Would you be up for that?
Bringing Apple’s seamless interface and simple approach, combined with cool design to what most of us look at for the better part of our lives, the TV, may be the thing that brings Apple one step closer to world domination. Was it the thing that the company visionary and savior Steve Jobs was working on before his death earlier this month.
“I’d like to create an integrated television set that is completely easy to use,” Jobs told his biographer, Walter Isaacson. “It would be seamlessly synced with all of your devices and with iCloud.”
This quote is from a book by Isaacson, entitled ‘Steve Jobs’ that was released on Monday last week. Jobs also stated that he would declutter living rooms from the complex pile of remotes and wires.
“I finally cracked it.”
Those words seem pretty definite to me. And they also insight the most intrigue with this fan boy. Could Apple really be releasing an iTelevision? AppleTV has been around now for a couple of generations and although we love our it has been met with a very tepid response. There have been rumours flying around for a few years of an Apple Smart TV in that book with the above statement it does seem like it may be imminent.
With a SMART TV Apple could sync together all of your Apple products seamlessly. You could store your iTunes purchased films on the iCloud and play them on your SMART TV or iPod at the same time, all complete with a bit of Siri voice activation.
“Siri when is the next episode of FRINGE on?” You ask and the TV searches all listings for FRINGE and finds the next episode. “Siri what Brad Pitt movies are available?” The TV searches listings and iTunes for Brad Pitt movies for you. “Siri show me my holiday photos” The TV searches iPhoto for your images and displays them.
How fricking cool would that be!!!!
Not only that but you could use Facetime to chat to people from all over the globe all via your TV!
The TV Sector is heading for a very similar place that the phone market was at when the iPhone was introduced in 2007. Back then there were PDAs that started to have apps on and then the iPhone came in and blew them away with its simplicity and took over the market and shined the way to the future.
TVs are in a very similar spot. Manufacturers are starting to make SMART features and it all feels very familiar. TVs are no longer there just to display TV shows. They have browsers, interfaces for iPlayers and LOVEFiLM. They are more like mini PCs than ever before.
If Apple were to release a TV that simplified our life and shined the way very much like the iPhone did, it would be the perfect time to do it!
What are your opinions on this? Fanboy or not fanboy? Would you buy one?

Am currently reading the book and I’m not still at that chapter (I’m at the Macintosh chapters), but reading this I would be interested to see what it would look like. I’m sure it would be a very interesting mix of various technologies
I am such a fanboy that I did a little jump when researching this post!! Loves that Apple!
Be nice if AppleTV had siri for sure.
I personally don’t have any of the Apple products. The only thing I remember him by are the poor Chinese kids and people who worked in his factories like slaves for almost no money.
Exploiting the hungry ones to feed the overstuffed ones
that is a very poignant comment there Dezzy.
I’d go nuts if I could buy an iTV or whatever. As it is, when I make my big TV purchase, the plan is to make it as “smart” as possible.
Have you still not bought it yet John?
It would be cool if Apple comes out with an iTV, I might not buy it since I tend to stick with the usual brands when it comes to TV but I’m sure Apple can make a very cool looking TV.
It would be very swish and probably over priced too hey Ted?
