Tech Tuesday – The Best of CES
Recently us Techie types were treated tot he holy grail in Tech Exhibitions – CES 2013. From the 7th to the 10th January all the big wigs of the Tech world were showing their new technologies for the upcoming year. Full to the rafters with TVs, PCs, Gaming gear and other consumer tech it was like a very wet dream of mine.
Unfortunately I was unable to afford to pay for flights to go (one day, one day) but luckily for us the guys over at AVForums have put together a ‘Best Of CES Video’ which is embed below… Let us all drool. (Also the out takes made me laugh)
Microsoft claims IllumiRoom is a “proof-of-concept system,” but the fit and finish of its promotional video, compared to the low production quality of typical Microsoft Research videos, makes me think otherwise.
“The footage shown here is exactly what appeared in our lab without any special effects being added,”
said Eric Rudder, Microsoft’s Chief Technology Strategy Officer as he introduced the video last week as a bizarre part of the Samsung Keynote speech.
The demonstration starts with an actor commanding the Xbox to “go big,” with a projection showing an Xbox console scanning the room before images are projected onto nearby walls. Microsoft didn’t explain why it chose to demo IllumiRoom with Samsung, but the companies have previously worked together on PixelSense tables and the components for Microsoft’s Surface tablet. Samsung manufactures a number of Pico projectors and has recently added the technology to its Galaxy Beam smartphone — suggesting it’s in a position to offer the tech at a low-cost for the consumer market.
Here is the video, what are your thoughts…

That Xbox thing looks like a nice gimmick, although it makes me wonder why you wouldn’t just play it on a normal beamer. Of course this wouldn’t allow you to have those cool warping effect when shooting, but it’s not that different. As for all the other things on CES I have to say I liked the look of that new Sony Android set. Not that I currently need a new phone, but if I would that’s the one I’d probably get.
The warping effect is the bit that got my attention too Nostra. Very cool indeed
In about ten years, when all the new Ultra HD screens have come down to an affordable size, we’re going to have to re-buy all our BluRay discs which will no doubt be re-manufactured with 4k video as standard….. He he….
