Tech Tuesday – Top Home Cinema Seating to suit every budget
This Tuesday I want to talk about what you park your bottom on for the duration of a film, here is FRC’s Top Home Cinema Seating
Home Cinema Seating is one of those parts of home entertainment that often gets over looked. Not as bad as the cables, but it still gets missed off the budget.
There is little point in spending all of your hard-earned cash on your Dream system if you have to sit cross-legged on a hard wood floor to watch a film.
What you want is something that can hold your bum adequately for up to 3-4 hours with out the dreaded NUMB BUM syndrome. We tolerate that in the Cinema, but at home we want the ultimate comfort. The cushier the seats the better.
OK, you might already have a three-piece suite that is comfy, but wouldn’t it be nice to have some dedicated Home Cinema Seating? Here are our pick of seats you can buy, some cheap as chips, some ridiculously priced, only suited for Footballers.
La-Z-Boy Cool Chair – £1000
I know it is almost a cliché but I couldn’t do an article about Home Cinema seating without mentioning the Daddy of chairs. It has massagers, super soft padding, a FRIDGE, and even a connection for a phone just so you can ring the wife to get your dinner on the stove!!
FATboy – £150
Of course if you are a vegetarian, or just do not fancy a bit of skin vs cow action there are alternatives out there. The FATBOY is a huge man-sized bean bag that can be shaped in many different positions, so you can either slouch back or lie horizontally while you watch the latest blockbuster.
Premier Seats – FROM £1200
Now we are talking. Drinkstuff have these bad boys, they come in red or black suede, they have fridges and back massagers installed. You can get them in singles or in rows of up to five. Ranging from £1200 to £5000 with these installed your guests will really know you mean business.
X-Rocker Deluxe – £400
Just to show we haven’t gone seat mad, here is something that is verging on affordable, but still keeping the high-end features. I soft leather-covered recliner has underarm storage and a 3 channel sound system which includes stereo speakers and a SUB under your bottom. Pretty good for the price huh?
And for the Home Cinema Geek that MUST have everything….
Ovei – £50,000
OK, OK, I know most of us haven’t got £50,000 to blow on anything let alone a home cinema seat. But let us imagine we are a poor over payed sports personality, with a fifty grand wedge burning a hole in our pocket. Then what we need is the Ovei. It is a fully enclosed home entertainment pod, catering for any of your needs, be it relaxing with a film, listening to music or gaming with 13 yr olds from Kansas, it can do it. Engineered by McLaren and designed by Lee McCormack each capsule is completely bespoke and tailored to the buyers personal taste.
I am so gonna get one…..OK I won’t…
What do you sit on in your home cinema? Have you though about getting a new seat? What about the Ovei? Comment below.

I got one extremely comfortable chair (leather, very soft and where you can put the footrest up), it doesn’t have any of the fancy features you mention here, but it is my dedicated movie watching chair.
Once I really get a dedicated cinema room I will have to investigate which ones I will get then!
I probably wouldn’t want to get that pod thing, it just seems cramped…
Your chair sounds awesome!!
You keep talking about this dedicated room. I can’t wait to see it, when it is done!
A man has got to dream! The room is still a while off, but once it is done you will get an invite
My current seat? Well its my bum on the floor leaning against my bed! I have no room for a chair unfortunately …. until I move out!
You should look at one of those big ol’ bean bags Luke!!
too bad those comfy chairs and seats always look so ugly … they should work on the design a bit too, not just on the technical aspect of it …
Really? I think some of them look pretty swish
I don’t think I can afford any of these, I still have my sofa from like 10 yrs ago, but those serve us just fine. We’ve got some furry blanket that are super comfy when we cuddle up to watch a movie
Oh wow, I like those premier seats! We make do with our little two-seater sofa, futon and bean bag
Those are some nice sofas, I’m still trying to expand my man cave, so I’ll probably be buying those premiere seats once the room is finished.
BTW, I’ll be sending you another one of my tech Tuesday articles to you later this week.
That’s some fancy seats you got there. Not sure some of those are worth the cost (who doesn’t like standing for 2 hours while watching a movie???) but that OVEI Pod looks like total overkill ahah
I would love a set of plush recliners with drink holders but can’t justify the cost. Maybe if I start charging all my friends for admission
Haha wow, that Ovei looks pretty sweet. Wish I had a house to set up a home theater room, but our apartment is pretty cramped as is! Still, I’m pretty happy with our couch and plasma TV.
When i get my cinema room sorted, i’m gonna get a Laz-E-Boy each for me and the missus, plus some premiere seats for the commoners! some nice research there and i’ve saved it for future reference.
