Trailer of the Week – Sightseers
Trailer of the week time, this week Teri takes a look at the latest from British Director Ben Wheatley, Sightseers
Anticipation Level: (out of 5) 5
Trailer score: (out of 5) 4
“He’s not a person, Tina, he’s a Daily Mail reader.”
Ben Wheatley’s follow-up to 2011’s immensely popular Kill List is predictably highly anticipated; it’s the darkly comic tale of new couple Chris and Tina and their first camping trip together, a trip that ends in homicide – well, by the looks of things, multiple homicide. Chris, as it turns out, is not only the man of sweet-natured Tina’s dreams, but a bit of a murderous sociopath. Go figure.
Aside from being quite hilarious and obviously shocking, the trailer for Sightseers really shows how beautifully shot the film is – the muted colours of Britain’s countryside add a surprisingly lush but chilling kind of backdrop, and there’s a really nice, almost nostalgic sheen to the whole thing. Alice Lowe’s Tina is delightfully mousy as Steve Oram’s Chris is grizzly and really quite terrifying. It’s an amusing mix, and what banter we’re revealed is sharp and shocking as it is endearing, pulling out more than a few low, dirty chuckles.
Sightseers is also produced by Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World), and will be released in the UK on November 30th
