Trailer of the Week – SAVAGES
Teri is back with her latest edition to the trailer of the week series, this week SAVAGES
Anticipation Level: (out of 5) 3.5
Trailer score: (out of 5) 3
Blake Lively is a bloody lucky girl, let me get that out of the way first. Girlfriend of both Aaron Johnson and Taylor Kitsch? Is this real life?
Er, no – it’s Savages, upcoming crime thriller/polyamorous romance extravaganza from Oliver Stone. Have I enjoyed his recent work? Somewhat. The Wall Street sequel was a miss for me, but W. was great and I can’t hate the guy who made Natural Born Killers and Platoon. And Savages, from the trailer at least, looks a little glossy and overworked, but perhaps has the potential to be a return to the sleazy fun form I enjoyed so much in Killers.
Johnson and Kitsch star as Ben and Chon, college buddies turned business partners (growing and selling weed, of course), both dating the same girl, O (Lively); they’re now mixed up in some serious backlash as cartel enforcer Lado (Benecio del Toro) is after their business in a big way. Big enough to kidnap O and threaten her life if they don’t agree to partner up, that is. Sounds a bit far fetched – throw in John Travolta playing a bad cop and a blunt-banged Salma Hayek as the cartel’s leader and it could just be the right amount of scuz needed to make this film highly enjoyable. If it isn’t a major snoozefest like Wall Street and relies more on the superficial and fun than trying to be bigger than it actually is, I’m sure we’ll get along just fine.
What do you think?

Trailer is all right but nothing special. Kinda like the movie itself, forgettable but has good elements.
I can’t stand Oliver Stone so I’ll be giving this a wide berth. Heard mixed things about it though.
