Weekend Round-Up – FRC needs your help.
With nothing to add here in the form of a round-up, Scott wants to ask for your help.
This weekend in FRC Towers we had one of those tired ones where not a single film is played. We are extremely busy at the moment preparing for a summer of camping trips with the girls. Which I know doesn’t sound that stressful, but when you are a man who loves his creäture comforts and technology, it is tough.
We recently won an auction on EBAY for a Trailer Tent. It was a good deal but we didn’t have a clue how to erect it. So on Saturday we spent the time that Daisy is at her drama class (the show is next weekend!!) trying to work it out!
I am pleased to report that it went up with the minimal effort, and more importantly Lyn and I are still married. HAHA
Check out this beauty (yes it is faded, but it is from the 80s!!)
Anyway, all this meant that we didn’t watch a film on Saturday night and went to bed early. Yesterday was similar, with shopping and gardening wearing this old man out. So I have nothing to review, and nothing to report.
This is wear I need to ask you something….
FRC is not celebrating a Birthday / milestone or anything posh. But I am trying to move things forward. This is wear you, our faithful 3 readers come in.
What Series / Feature would you like to see on FRC?
Be it an old one returning or a new idea, let me know in the comments section and I am sure we can oblige.
Here is a reminder of some old features we used to run…

It started with the best of British Icons, then it went on tour and ended up highlighting the Fallen Icons…. Want it back?

I started this one as I wanted to educate myself on older films, it was fun actually and I am very proud to say that I have maintained my classic viewing. Shall it make a return?
What about the Daily posts? Do you enjoy the TECH posts? Or are they a waste of bandwidth? What about the mumbles / rants? They are good, right?
Are there any types of posts you would like to see here? News? Trailers? Obituaries?
Also I have been toying with Vlogs…. Shall I do more? What about a Podcast form FRC?
I am sorry to ask so many questions in one post, but if I am to change anything on FRC I want to make sure it to something that you, our reader, would enjoy.
So step up and give your opinion. I would love to hear what you have to say

Please no news or trailer posts. Personally I’m not a big fan of those on any site, though I realize for some people they’re quite important. I would like to see Looking Back Friday make a return though. Quite enjoyed those!
Nice tent-work, my friend!
HAHA Well I have been doing a group email with the team and we have pretty much put the idea of NEWS to bed. But Teri has an interesting idea with Trailers… So that may make an appearance… would that be OK?
Would you like to ever do a LOOKING BACK guest post, Mr Brainiac? I would love to host one for you… pweety pweez
Maybe an opportunity for people to ask you questions about the tech side of things. There are bound to be loads of people who are interested to know.
Maybe a project on animation? I know for me, Blu-Rays of Disney are outstanding with vivid colours and incredible sound.
Vlogs are great but I think the best ones have the great green-screen backgrounds – so if that was possible than maybe. (MovieDex is a good example)
These are some ideas, i haven’t seen your site for long, but these are things which I know I like doing and hope to do more of, so maybe you would want to do something similar?
Ah I like that idea Simon… a HELP DESK so to speak. That sir is a great idea. And one I will probably run with…
I am not sure I have the technical ability to pull off a green screen type vlog. The ones I have film I have done in the office when everyone is out, spoilt the magic? LOL MovieDex’ ones are amazing… a true talent.
I might look into a better set up though, maybe smile a bit more. Have you done many? I would love to watch them…
Thanks so much for the input matey… You are a very welcome vistor!
I stand and applaud the “help desk” idea. That could be awesome.
It is isn’t it? Obviously I would be asking for your help with that one Mr Twelfltree… OK?
I shall provide whatever service I am able!
Thanks Rodders!! We shall chat about this very soon!
I’d second that [or I guess 3rd/4th/5th/6th that]. A regular slot where you’ll answer the week’s questions would be good next to [or sometimes instead of round up, if weekly viewing is erratic, innit].
Would you want to alternate round up so that it rotates to your other writers? Take the stress out of having to always having to do it, and patterns of different viewing habits might start popping out to amusing effect. Maybe.
I actually enjoyed your ‘Looking Back Friday’, maybe because sometimes you watched the same classic as me
I think Fallen Icons were nice as well. Mumble posts are nice, but I guess you could be careful not making it like complaining too much (almost similar). Hope it helps!
ANother vote for Looking Back Friday…Cool. Maybe I should un attach the posts form any particular day and bring them all back??
What you think?
Also as a side note. I got a big red warning about MALWARE this morning when coming over to your blog this morning Andina… I don’t know why, something to do with BLOGORAMA… Any idea what that is?
That’s totally up to you (about un-attaching post form), whatever fits you I guess
I tested the comment thing, and it’s working fine. Not really familiar with this walmare. what does it say??
When I try and access your website it tells me there is a risk of MALWARE… do not enter. I don’t know why, something to do with a plug in? Very odd indeed.
I’ve removed the blogorama widget. Hope it clears up the problem
I popped over this morning, it seems all good now. Sorry if it was important. I would hate you to lose readers cos of a silly plug in or something
I know many blog readers like regular features. I’m an odd one here; I prefer to be surprised. I think too many reoccurring themes with certain days reserved for certain themes can make a blog a little bit stale. Don’t lock up yourself too much! Feel free to go wild sometimes. You can also have short series of a few posts, series that don’t run over an entire year.
I would love to hear more of you talking about films. Perhaps podcasting is an idea, but in that case I’d suggest you to try to be a guest at other podcasts first and get a feeling for it.
I know what you mean about being surprised Jessica. Maybe I should just free up the features from their attached day and let them fall where they may? Monday List????? LOL I am having a panic attack.
I get all scared about doing podcasts, yet I can sit here and film myself fluffing the words on a video… that is a bit weird isn’t it.
Thanks for your thoughts, you are a good friend and a real expert, I trust you.
How was your experience podcasting? I think I heard you on one. You sounded excellent.
I’ve been on a few podcasts and it was really fun every time. While writing is my main medium, it’s nice to talk to people directly once in a while.
As a LAMB member I really think you should try to get into one of the LAMB casts. Dylan throws up spots for grabs every now and then so keep an eye open for the announcement!
The LAMB cast does have the disadvantage though that there are so many people in it, five at a time. This makes for some interrupts and you might need to push it a bit to make your voice heard in the crowd.
I was also at Demented Doorknob podcast, where I tossed in my name as someone who was up for an episode. That would have been easier than LAMB to handle with just three of us if it wasn’t for that we had huge technical problems.
The smoothest, but in one way also most demanding show, was the one I made with The Matineecast. There were just the two of us there, Ryan and me, and we had a chemistry that worked well. Besides I didn’t have to go through those terrible movie games that the other podcasts run, which I constantly lose. It’s toughter though in the sense that there are just two of you there, not much room for hiding and resting while other people do the talking.
Anyway – I’m sure there are several podcastsers out there who would love to have you in the show. Ask on twitter or in the LAMB forum and you’ll be picked up by someone.
WOW I didn’t know you had been on so many. I remember listening to you on one… probably The Matineecast. But I am not sure.
To Be Honest all of the stuff you mentioned above sent shivers of fear down my spine. I really do not think I am brainy or knowledgable enough to do a podcast. I would be left just uming and ahing and look like a right numpty.
I will give it some thought though. Thanks Jessica for your help. You are a star!!
Pfft! You have nothing to be afraid of. I’m afraid I haven’t seen your previous videos, but the one you did for the Lammy presentation worked just fine. I think you’ve got the kind of lighthearted personality that makes a good fit for a podcast. And besides – you’re a native! If I can do this in a foreign tongue, you could do it!
HAHAH I guess. Although sometime I do not feel like I speak the queens english very well. And whenever I try and pronounce a foreign names I struggle!!!
I have just filmed a viedo review of Rampart this afternoon, and I am really not sure how to pronounce Oren Moverman, so I just rushed passed that bit!!! HAHA
You are right though, I should just but the bullet hey? Stop being a big girls blouse.
I’m with you Jessica! I like to be surprised too, but i know for me, I just can’t stick to a schedule, especially weekly. The only thing I do regularly is the weekend roundup and the monthly five-for-the-fifth.
With that said matey, I do like your series but maybe it doesn’t have to be a weekly thing. The Fallen Icon for example, maybe just do that twice a month or whatever. The Looking Back Friday is awesome though, would love to see more of those!
Looking Back Friday! It’s a great feature – I’d love to see this one back.
Another vote for the Looking Back feature. I find this very interesting.
Do you have any films from the past that you recommend we do a feature on?
Repulsion maybe? The Tenant? Perhaps entire apartment trilogy by Polanski.
Ohhh Polanski. Can’t wait to read that one!
Oh nice ideas Sati. I will see what we can muster up… Thanks as ever for your input
I saw you kicking around the podcasting idea.
LOL.
It’s fun… I enjoy doing mine. But I have to say, from my experience, they seem to be completely different animals. The connection between them is… tenuous.
Not trying to dissuade you from podcasting, at all. I’m just not so sure that it would help FRC grow, if that’s your main motivation, you know?
You mean the connection between blogging and pod casting? That link? Sorry man, you know I am slow on the uptake!!
Growth, is always my motivation (god I am sounding like a 70s porno now), but I also like trying new things (even moreso now!! euw hahah)
Thanks for opping in as ever Mr Fog!
Yup, that’s the connection alright.
If you’re going to check it out to have fun with it and do it because podcasting would hold an appeal for you, then absolutely! That is great, its a lot of fun, I like that myself, as well…
I just think my blog winds up helping my podcast more than my podcast helps my blog.
I find this highly interesting fogs.
If I am honest I thought the podcast was the next evolutionary step for a blog. But from your comment I am not sure.
Thanks as ever matey you are the fountain of knowledge.

I liked Looking Back Friday too, although I think the Help Desk thing is a killer idea. The tech side of things is a really great niche for you.
Ah man, everyone likes the Looking Back section. I am pretty pleased actually as I did really enjoy those articles too.
The Help desk is gonna be fun. Have you finally upgraded your TV yet John?
Not exactly. I’m trying to put away the money for a trip to Ireland first.
I am going through Classical phase myself right now. So, Look Back Friday it is..On Popular Demand, Bring it Back !!!
Ha! I had noticed you doing a bit more in the way of Classics lately SDG. Fancy doing a guest post if I bring it back?
Do you really think anyone can say NO to this ??
I would love to Scott. However, I am in kind of middle of nowhere right now. So, as long as timing isn’t a constraint, I will surely fancy my chance.
I always found your journey looking back at older film interesting. I think the biggest challenge with that though is find films everyone would be interested in reading about. Sure you could look back at some foreign classics, but I’m not sure everyone would be interested in them (as I’ve learned). There seems to be a demand for it though so why not try it again?
This is very true Max. Do you have any suggestions or favourites for me or one of the gang to look at?
S
The one feature I’d like to see is the ‘Films you vowed never to see’ marathon that you never started. Tom does a great job with the horror and cult films, but it’s not the same.
Scott, I bags NOT being involved in watching films I never wanted to see… LOL
Yeah, about that… do I really have to follow through with that one BT?
Haha. OK fine. How about a return of the Film School posts then?
Love the help desk idea. I think your expertise in the technical side of home cinema and it’s associated tech is a real strength of FRC so pushing this area can only help.
I wouldn’t persuade or dissuade you from podcasting but I’m not a huge fan myself. There are some I really like and listen to often but a lot I hear sound more like a bunch of friends recording thier Skype conversation and are subsequently as dire, uninspired and unprofessional as you’d expect. I think the vlog idea is better, especially if joined with the help desk idea.
I know exactly what you mean about Podcasts. I am not a massive listener and always thought they were a good extension, but the ones I have listened too seem a pointless exercise and showcasing of ones film knowledge, of which I know very little.
Any questions for the help desk Dan?
…questions….YES! What is that thing you store your films on, how does it work, how much does it cost, where can I get one?
HA! OK, It is a NAS drive. The one I have is a Netgear STORA it was around £90 without any hard drives. You put a couple of SATA drives in it and it connects directly to your router. I have 4TB on there which is plenty of storage.
I can then access it from any computer or streamer on my network, as well as from work if I wanted to.
You can get cheaper or a lot more expensive options, but it is nice to have it connected to the network rather than a computer.
Does that help at all?
As you know, can very well sympathise with your weekend! Not enough days, I swear.
Love the idea of Look Back Friday, especially as I’m trying to see more classic films. Yes, being completely selfish with my feedback here
The mumbles/rants are great. There’s always one of them I can get behind! Definitely have a few more of those sprinkled in the mix.
Maybe start a blogathon?? Start one here and spread it around…maybe?
Thanks Jaina, it looks very much like the Looking Back feature is going to make a reoccurrence in some way or form.
A blogathon? maybe, would you like to take part??
Glad you’re enjoying the Mumbles, Jaina. Hoepfully I can continue to provoke reactions from our readers (be it positive or otherwise) and promote discussion on all things film. With any luck you’ll enjoy the next few weeks of Mumbling too – we’ve got some fun stuff coming up.
I second the idea for a Blogathon, Scott! What can we do? What can we do?
congrats on buying the tent, Scottie! You will be the star of any camping site
HAHA I doubt that very much, but thanks for saying so Dezzy
Count me in as another fan of Looking Back Friday. I also quite enjoyed your Fallen Icon series — would love to see that return!
KK So it looks like the Looking Back is coming back. I actually love your project Eric, one of the best around. I will see what we can come up with
Btw, I am generally not fond of VLOGs or podcast, sorry matey I guess I’m an odd one in that regard. I prefer to read people’s posts. I do enjoy your video blogs though, I just prefer to read stuff if you know what I mean.
Great tent btw, I love that you share your family outing experiences with all of us. That personal side of you is what I LOVE about FRC, matey, amongst others
You know what, I’m gonna agree with Ruth on the “personal side” being on show here at the FRC, Scott. Always good to know who the person is that runs the site we’re reading! It adds…. charm. And personality. And…. something to laff at from time to time! LOL!
Ha Charm? really? I think I sound like an uneducated fool that only knows 4 words most of the time!! I am so thankful to your guys for your articles / reviews and such. You have kept FRC alive
I understad what you mean Ruth. I don’t think I have listened to many podcasts ever. I too like the written word. I just thought it was the next logical step. Maybe not huh?
Thanks for the kind words Ruth, It is a fine line between keeping it personal and going professional. I hope to stay this side for a while!!
