Weekend Round Up – The British Grand Prix
It is Monday so it is must be time for a round up of the viewing pleasure in FRC Towers
Happy Monday all, did you have a good weekend? Did it rain enough for you? Well in the UK it was the wettest weekend EVER, we had 2 months worth of rain in 2 days and for a lot of that I was actually outside.
You see on Friday my lovely girls took me to see the Formula One Practice day at Silverstone. And boy was I excited.
Unfortunately the rain made it a very interesting and testing time. It all started with the parking. Normally it wouldn’t be an issue and you would get in very quickly, but parking cars on Muddy and water logged fields is a difficult task, if you want them to get out again!! Hats off to the organizers, it may have been slow going but they did a cracking job in getting us all in. Luckily we were parked at the top of a hill so we found it very easy to get out, the same cannot be said for the guys at the bottom.
After 3 hours of queueing to get to the car park… Yes THREE HOURS!! We entered the track. I was like a little child, being at Silverstone is amazing. After years of seeing it on TV and driving around it in various games, I was speechless. Add the smell of the fuel and the sound of the F1 cars and that makes a very happy Scott. Not even the fact that we got completely soaked and rained on ALL DAY could dampen my spirits. I have to say I am so proud of my girls too. They only like things if they are princess based, and F1 racing is SOO not pink and fluffy, but they did really well and did not complain once!! Also I got to stand next to BANES tumbler… which I was surprised to see there. Nice touch
And a big Well done to Mark Webber, the Aussie drove a brilliant race to clutch victory…Not bad for a Number 2 driver (as he is always quoted in saying).
This is where I would share some photos, but somehow I have managed to delete them all off my computer. I know I imported them into iPhoto, but for the love of god, I cannot find them. Sorry.
*UPDATE* I found my photos!!!! So if you are ready for some shoddy photography of my WET day at Silverstone, click on the images below! (they get bigger!!)
We didn’t actually get any film watching done this weekend, because of the F1 day and Daisy had her big show on Saturday. This brings me to more news…
For the duration of Summer I am to suspend the Weekend Round-Up. You see now that Daisy’s drama classes are on a break we are going to try and get away in the trailer tent every weekend, which in turn means no film privileges… well until I can find a good portable projector!! HAHA
But what will be in its place? Well I have been thinking that although I visit and read a lot of blog, I rarely give back any love, in the way of links… So from Next week I will bring you the FRC Love In. Where I will share with you different articles, reviews and opinions that I have read and really enjoyed…OK?
Obviously all the normal services on FRC will continue… with the addition of the Looking Back Feature returning!1 (by popular demand!). Watch out for some cool guest articles in that one.

What did you do this weekend? What did you watch? Surely more than I did right? Comment below!!

Even with the rain and the long waits, I still would have loved to be there, Silverstone is an incredible track. Kind of disappointed that all you could show us are some stock photos though…
You and me both BT… I am totally gutted, I got some really good action shots too!!
Photos are up now matey
Sounds as if you had a blast, despite the conditions. The closest I’ve been to this is riding go-cart indoors and that made me absolutely nauseous after a couple of rounds! (I’m easily nauseated in cars and boats).
Don’t say that you don’t already give out love to the communtiy. Your rounds with all the commenting are legendary. But I still look forward to see what you’ll come up with with your new feature. If there’s anyone who knows what’s going on in the blogosphere, it’s you!
Thanks Jessica. You are always so kind here in your comments.
I look forward to giving back alittle now.
And you will be heavily featured I am sure.
I remember when I was young, my dad had a go at a race around Silverstone. My brother sat in the passenger seat while me and my mum watched on. It was somewhat drier when we went!
I saw the news about the car parking woes at Silverstone – the rain tries to ruin everything! (It even tried to knock out my Sky on Sunday while watching the tennis final!)
Glad that you still managed to have a great time.
Every weekend away? How exciting! Very jealous and am sure you’re all going to make some fantastic family memories with your big tent!
Wow I bet that was Ace Jaina!!
It was a struggle in the car park, we saw many cars that would never have got out!!!
I am hoping the weather gets better for camping hey?
Go Webber for the Win!!! Go Aussie!!!
Glad you enjoyed yourself, man. I saw the rain on the news here and I had a slight giggle to the wife, knowing you’d be going and standing in all that… I feel bad….
Still, you got to stand next to the Tumbler, so screw YOU rain!!! Happy days!
Can’t wait for the Love In, and am looking forward to the Looking Back features!!!
Well Webber is an honorary Brit as he lives here now!! HAHA
Yes, we got very wet
Woo hoo! Looks like you had a blast matey. I’d rather be over there w/ all that rain as it’s as hot as the Sahara desert where I am. I LOVE that Tumbler,
That Mark Webber is cute, looks a bit like Aaron Eckhart
Thanks for sharing, great pics!
HAHA He is very you actually Ruth, Tall Dark and Handsome!!
Ha..ha.. I’d like him and those camouflaged Tumbler to go please!
Great pics, matey, Lynn and the girls looked so happy. Of course, I would be too!
whoa nice that you went to the F1 track with your kids. Every boy should be excited being there. Always hot in my city, just a little cloud. I watched Amazing Spider-Man and have a lovely time.
I am super happy you enjoyed Spiderman, I haven’t seen it, but I read your review and I am glad you liked it!!
Awesome man! Sport ain’t my thang but I bet being at an F! track is beyond thrilling! Looking forward to the FRC love-ins! Can’t believe we don’t get a photo of you with the Tumbler, cool you got to see it though!
HAHA The phots are here now Pete. Not the greatest but still cool no?
Sounds great – much like Wimbledon, it feels like it is something everyone should do at one point. My dads a big F1 fan so, maybe ill get him inviolved too!
It totally is Simon. I want to go next year. But it is so expensive for the actual race day. Believe it or not it is actually cheaper to watch the race in Monaco!!!
I’ll miss the weekly catchup posts, but looking forward to your love in. Let me know if I can offer my services to a looking back article.
Thanks Max, I will deffo let you know. Do you have anything in mind??
You saw F1 Race !! Awesome !! My Interest in it has dwindled since Reikkonen retired (2010 was it ??) I don’t have anyone anymore to root for but I hated races with rain interruption and Silverstone was culprit more often than not. But you enjoyed the whole experience. So, that’s great !!
And Yay for Looking Back !!
You know Raikkonen is back this year right??
LOL wet races are annoying but often the most exciting with cars going off track!
Sounds like a cracking weekend Scott! When I went to Silverstone two years ago it was raining too! Typical British weather…
HAHA We do have our fair share of weather hey Dan?
Sounds like you had a great weekend even with all of the rain! I had a busy weekend with a lot of extra working, but I did manage to slip away and take in a double feature of THE DO-DECA-PENTATHLON and RAISING ARIZONA. It was part of a “Film That Changed My Life” series, and the director Jay Duplass was there to talk about both movies. Pretty cool event.
Hope you have a great week, man. Looking forward to the Love In posts.
Wow you did have a cracker hey Eric?
Thanks man
Lovely write up Scott … Glad you enjoyed. When the GP happened in India I made fun of my friends because I never understood watching it live since the cars just whiz past in a few seconds and then you wait for the next one to come. But reading this have to say I feel like experiencing it live at least once. Cheers and have a great holiday.
It is a bit like that I am not going to lie to your Raghav, but the whole day and excitement makes up for the whizzing cars! plus the noise and smell is amazing.
So awesome Looking back Friday will be back, though I will miss Weekend Round up!
