Weekend Round-Up – LFF and Let me introduce you….
Been a funny weekend this one, not a lot of film viewing and quite a bit of planning.
*TODAY I AM IN LONDON AT LONDON FILM FESTIVAL SO THIS POST WAS WRITTEN ON SUNDAY*
I am having a small case of déjà vu here. I remember the weekend before Empire’s Big Screen I was busy flapping around in between PDF files trying to find the best way to navigate the event and see everything I wanted to see. Well here we go again.
Although I have been up already to a press day, London Film Festival starts officially this week and here I am again, but this time a LOT LOT worse in the middle of different PDF files of Press screenings and public showings. I am only going to be able to get up 2-3 days a week for the duration so picking the best days is proving difficult. I am sure I will get some good viewing in, and I am very excited. I have made the decision to try to see more of the SMALLER niche type films rather than the big national release films. What do you think, good idea?
I am going to be logging all my review and articles on a Friday. Now that ‘FRC Icon World Tour’ has come to it’s end I have a hole at the end of the week and this seems to fit very nicely. So the first introduction is to my LFF day and also section which you will find at the top of the page in the menus.
When the festival is over I am going to be starting a new Friday section that will require some help from my friends but I will tell more about it when the time arises.
This past weekend in the UK we had the first major signal that Autumn is here and Christmas is around the corner because the annoyingly addictive and depressing show ‘The X Factor’ has started it’s live shows. This means that not only have I got to start trying to remember where I put the Christmas Decorations in the attic but I also lose TV rights on a Saturday night. Curse you Simon Cowell!! I mean this Saturday it was on from 7.30 to 10.30!! Jeesh.
Off of the back of this means that I have little to write about FILM wise from the weekend. Sorry guys.
So to replace my usual post I want to bring your attention to a couple of sites that I love and deserve more readers.
The first is DOWN WITH FILM. This is a very new blog but it is edited and written by two very good friends of mine, Dave and Allen (sounds like a 1970s comedy duo huh?). You may know them from twitter as @lpoolfilmnerd and @kobieNINE.
This pair is part of the great gathering of Gosling lovers that all have a man crush on the great Ryan Gosling. We make up the Gaggle of Goslings (I really need to get a life).
DOWN WITH FILM is only very new but is written with great passion and humour. Dave is bringing hot off the press news and trailers to the site and Allen is there to write some brilliant, witty and sometimes a wee bit grumpy (we love him for it) reviews.
Have a little look, I am sure there is something there for you.
The next site I would like to pay my respects to is IMPASSIONEDCINEMA. Run by one of the nicest guys on the internet Max. With a professional design and up to date news this is a great place to find out all the pieces of information and candid reviews that you may need.
Max has been writing IMPASSIONEDCINEMA since January this year and although he does get a fair amount of visitors, you always need more (I know I do!!). So give him a visit and make a comment as I know he always reciprocates, a WIN WIN situation I think you would agree!!
I hope you are all well and don’t mind me plugging other sites that I think you may well enjoy.
Are you going to LFF? Any films that I need to see there? Do you have a site you want me to plug? Comment below…

thanks for the shout out Scott, you sir are a true gentleman. Thanks for making me aware of IMPASSIONEDCINEMA now following them on twitter and what a lovely design they have for their site, looks perfect
You are very welcome Dave. I am glad you are following MAX now, such a nice guy!
Scott your offically going to get a massive cuddle from me for the article! Thanks man, really means alot
Cool, another festival you are going to, looking forward to your feelings about it! Everyone will be writing about the big movies, so it’s not a bad idea to find the little gems no one has seen.
I feel for you when it comes to X Factor. This weekend Holland’s Got Talent started over here and I had to suffer through it as well. Luckily managed to watch Witness for the Prosecution before that, which was amazing so it was alright.
Great picks for those blogs, which I also regularly visit. Of course I wouldn’t mind a plug for My Filmviews
have fun at London film festival Scottie! Don’t forget to behave properly at the red carpet
I think you guys should get together and start a new website devoted to Ryan Gosling!
Very good to see you highlighting Down With Film and Impassioned Cinema. Two of my new favourite haunts!
Haha, you should tempt them, Dan!
Scott: I feel you pain with regards to the X Factor… While I like The Apprentice, Come Dine With Me and Dragons’ Den, I’ve never enjoyed the likes of the X Factor, Big Brother and co. This morning people in my office were chatting about it for about 45 minutes!
Hope you had a good day in London
test
dude good call on the smaller movies at LFF, i’m sure your reasoning is the same but you know you’ll get to see those big movies anyway. fill up your life with new filmic experiences.
I concur. No point seeing something that will be widely available soon.
I wish I had the time to catch more screenings at the VIFF. Next year I’m going to take a couple weeks off and try and get a press pass.
Hi Scott. Thanks for passing along a few more sites for me to check out. I’m going to take a look later today. Once again, I’m envious of another cool-looking film festival. Ours is only a month away here, so I can’t wait.
You are very welcome Dan. I look forward to hearing all about your Film Festival!!
Looking forward to your LLF coverage, matey, and have fun watching lots of films!
I’ve been going to Max’s site and am making a habit to visit Dave & Allen’s site, starting with adding DOWN WITH FILM to my blog roll!
Thankfully I was already following both blogs you mentioned so we’re okay.
Enjoy LFF while it lasts and don’t worry about having to write and visit all our blogs if you run out of time on some days. We understand and sympathize. We realize you’re a busy man and if anything, we envy that. So have a good time and see some great films.
Also, THE X FACTOR is pissing me off as well because it’s all Ashley watches on a Friday night and she sends me off to the bedroom if I want to watch a film
Hello pal, hope all is well. We’ve got to meet up at the LFF this week – it’s as much about putting faces to names as watching great films! I’ll next be in Wed morning for 360. Best, A
very good of you, Scott, to pay tribute to some noteworthy writers! that was prob my fave part about this entire post!
sounds like you’ve been busy!
Addicted to film festival much? Have fun at the LFF, I don’t know about covering small films or the big release, really up to you. Although it’s nice to discover a gem with those little movies, the big releases can be more popular blogging-wise so I can see your quandary.
I know right Castor? I am totally addicted. I have decided to attend The Artist Gala and Shame Gala, so I am covering some great films there, and also many smaller ones!!
For some reason I cannot reply directly to any comments. Sorry, stupid internet!!
@ Dave & Allen, You guys are very welcome. I am pleased to pass on some loving!!
@Nostra, I think I may do this loving as a feature on Mondays….watch this space!!
@ Dezzy, Have you ever known me to behave?
@Ruth, Thanks my friend. I am looking forward to it too. I am going to try and get to some of the press conferences too.
@ Tyler, I am glad that it isn’t just me that has to give up TV rights for X Factor!!
LFF is going to be such a blast!
@ Ash, I won’t be up until Friday now. For the SHAME gala. You going to that one?
@ Dan, We so need a website for THAT!! HAHAH Brilliant
@ Toby, Thanks buddy, I feel I have already broadened my horizons and I have only caught 6 films (2 of which I am not allowed to talk about)
@ Dan H … I am happy I have helped introduce you!!
@T, Thanks matey, I am glad you liked that bit!
@Castor, I am totally addicted to them now!! Be nice to have a easy going film. Too many dramas!!
Wow, Scott. I don’t know what to say, but I can start with Thank you so much! I just started to follow ‘Down with Film’ recently so I’m board with them too. Again…Thanks!
you are very welcome Max!!
Maybe I could make your Blog Roll soon?
Consider it done!
